During the summer months, from October to April, Mozambique sees much sunny weather, with an average temperature of 30°C / 86°F. This is both the hottest and wettest time of year. In the central part of the country, the temperatures are notoriously uncomfortable.
The winter climate offers the best time to visit Mozambique. From April to September, temperatures tend to feel much more comfortable and, with lower rainfall, it's easier to get around the country, particularly if you're planning to visit more remote regions or national parks. The coolest winter months are generally June and July, when average temperatures fall to 14°C / 57°F. At this time of year, night-time temperatures are often quite low, so a warm jacket or coat is recommended.
When considering the sorts of clothing you should pack for your stay in Mozambique, it's really important to take into account the location of your holiday destination. For example, if you plan to spend any time in the northern part of the country, you should bear in mind that the rainy season starts a few weeks earlier than in the south. Suitable rain gear is therefore recommended.
Likewise, towns and holiday resorts on the country's north-eastern coast can feel extremely hot and humid in comparison with inland areas, so it's best to come prepared with tropical lightweight clothing. Water temperatures are warm all year round, ranging from 22°C / 72°F in the winter to 29°C / 84°F in the summer.
